Apparently, our revered and not-at-all-racist government has been considering some sort of negative advertising campaign to dissuade Romanians and Bulgarians from coming here in the sort of numbers Poles did when they joined the EU. The Guardian held a competition for posters. Some are so good it makes me feel like leaving. As if the grey skies didn't do that anyway at this time of year.
Hell, even I am half-immigrant (from Wales, which doesn't really count as far as the English are concerned, but sure as hell does to the Welsh!) And when a Jewish bloke of Eastern European descent in Arizona rants about immigrants ... well, it's just so stupid it's funny, really.
And on BBC Radio 2 yesterday www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01q8ptf I didn't listen because just hearing the guy introduce the programme made me want to scream. I don't think Vine himself is racist but the BBC keeps trying to rile people up and helps the racist broadcast their opinions, like they need any PR campaign... Same with same-sex marriage and female bishops and so on. I wouldn't mind if there was enough time to really discuss things but the format means you get a couple of idiots shouting louder than the rest of them and there is rarely time for anybody (presenter or callers) to put forward a full counterargument. You'd think history would teach people a thing or two but nope!
