In the Dark
Reminded of Spike's first crossover into the Angelverse by hamsterwoman, I went looking and found something not quite what I expected, but really rather gorgeous.

Ouch. JM's English accent had slipped a bit at this point, hadn't it?

That was brilliant! :D

"Ouch. JM's English accent had slipped a bit at this point, hadn't it?"

Really? This was shot just around the time of season 4 of Buffy and I thought his accent was still pretty good back then.

The individual words are quite good (apart from "pouf"), but the stresses are all over the place, so it doesn't sound at all English to me. "A load of SEXual tension", for example - very American.

Still it's funny and he's pretty, so who really cares?

Well there is that. *g*

Well I've always fanwanked it that both Spike and Dru spent a long time traveling during their 'unlife' and that along the way their accent became 'bastardized'.

Hey, it does happen. :D

Yeah. I'll go along with that as a Watsonian argument, but the Doylist in me has listened to JM's British accent too often...

;-)

This was just lovely; a magnificent reminder of the Golden Days. **happy sighs**

Oh yes indeed.

I'm just going to claim that the accent is because he was imitating Angel... yeah, that's it.

Yeah, right.

I love that scene! I choose to see the accent as Spike trying (poorly) to do an american accent. ::nods firmly::

Neat video! Thanks for the link!

Hmm. I'll accept that as a Watsonian explanation. But I know what I know.

Now that was a treat! *happy sigh*

I miss BtVS and Spike.

Don't we all?

It's still one of Spike's finest moments.

Oh yes. So clever - and so right about the Great Pouf.

Man, I loved that scene.

Me too. Sexy and evil.

It's lovely, isn't it?
lost_spook From: lost_spook Date: February 22nd, 2013 09:27 am (UTC) (Link)
Ha, that's pretty clever - and amusing. :-)

(As for the accent, I think the others may be right - he is trying to do either an impression of Angel, or heading towards Film Trailer Voice - always in a US accent, that.)
gillo From: gillo Date: February 22nd, 2013 10:28 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hmm. I think he just doesn't quite get where the stresses fall in British English. I forgive him, though. ;-)

Hehe!

I especially loved that whirling dancer used for the word "poof"!

I know - such a Spike way of thinking!

His voice is the most beautiful thing! <3
Lovely animation. I don't know when the accent slips but I feel the difference between this and, say, Sherlock's accents. I any case I really adore this scene. So funny!
gillo From: gillo Date: February 22nd, 2013 10:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
His accent's not too bad, but the stresses are on wrong syllables in several places. There are several things JM never does get, bless. His voice is lovely to listen to, though.

That's one of the very few scenes of Angel I've ever watched. That really is a wonderful video.

I love the way the images express the words - and the humour.
shapinglight From: shapinglight Date: February 22nd, 2013 08:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hee! That hilarious, especially Angel flying away like a magnificent pouf (even if James does say it wrong).
gillo From: gillo Date: February 22nd, 2013 09:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
I know - I love the cape, too. And I can forgive James quite a lot...
hobbituk From: hobbituk Date: February 22nd, 2013 08:52 pm (UTC) (Link)
Bless...! He never did sound English to me... the fact he never said arse, but always ass particularly grated. Quite how people were surprised he was American I never understood. Personally I fanwanked it that he had been away from England for too long!

Now Alexis Denisof had an excellent English accent! Very believable.

Wesley was always completely believable. Spike shows the influence of way too many years across the Pond. But I do love his voice...

JM's English accent had slipped a bit at this point, hadn't it?

He didn't have Tony Head coaching him anymore.
gillo From: gillo Date: February 26th, 2013 12:19 am (UTC) (Link)
Good point, though "again, yet" might be better - once he was a full regular I think Tony did a lot more work with him.
